BEEBE, Elswyth ThaneBorn Helen Ricker, she changed her name to Elswyth Thane in 1918. She wrote historical novels that still have a wide following around the world, and more than 30 books in all, both fiction and non-fiction. Perhaps best known are her seven novels in the so-called Williamsburg series.
At age 27 she married
famed explorer and naturalist William Beebe, ¤
who was then 50.
It was his second marriage.
