DR. JOHN WESLEY TEAGUE


Dr. John W. Teague was born in Alabama on July 7, 1842 to Benjamin Franklin and Rosanna Yeatman Teague. The family moved to Arkansas when John Wesley was a young boy.

J.W. entered the confederate Army in 1861. After the war, he came to Jefferson, Texas, where he studied medicine under Dr. Pitts. he then graduated from Memphis School of Medicine and also the Hospital College and Missouri Medical School in St.. Louis.

In October 1868, he married Miss Mary Francis Councill. They had two children, Ellen who married Dr. J.M. Andrews, and Nell.

Dr. Teague lived and practiced several places in East Texas and in 1898 came to Wharton to enter the drug business. He was Mayor from 1904-1910. He died November 9, 1924.
