Camping at John Martin Reservoir State Park

October 23-25, 2004

We camped at Lake Hasty Campground Saturday evening,

drove to Bent's Old Fort on Sunday & drove up on the dam Saturday evening,

camped Sunday night with only one other RV in the whole park.

We camped in #35 right on the water.

 

The picture on the right (above) is  ->^ the  campsite next to ours, it pretty much has the same view, the dam is to the right (all pictures from park web page)

Lake Hasty is in the back and the campground is to the left of it.

   

Lots of bird watching

Things in the area:

-Kit Carson Museum, Las Animas

-Otero Museum, La Junta

-Santa Fe Trail U.S. Highway 350 from La Junta to Trinidad follows the route of the ("Mountain Route")

We did not make it to the Koshare Indian Museum so we will have to do that next time.

I was also hoping to go to the Sugar City Lakeview Cemetery and see the graves of my great-great grandparents. This will also be part of the next trip.
