The first Protestant church was the St. James Episcopal Church, built in Monterey, California in 1876. In 1970, it was moved from its original site on Franklin and High Streets and now houses the Mayo-Hayes-O'Donnell Historical Library.

Monterey Wharf
The original wharf near this location was first built in 1845. Earlier ships unloading needed to use small boats to land directly on the beach.
Peninsula Community Hospital, Carmel, in 1942
Many Monterey Peninsula residents were born in this hospital before the new, larger Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula was built on Holman Highway in 1959.
