Historic Native American Mounds (southwestern Ohio) Not only is Lebanon Ohio within 7 miles of the Lebanon Raceway Harness Racing, the Jack Nicklaus Sports Center, The Beach Water Park, and Kings Island Amusement Park, it also is the home of the historic Golden Lamb Inn and Restaurant. East of town is Fort Ancient, ground works built by much earlier residents, the Mound Builders. Other mounds of note include the Miamisburg Mound, several miles northwest of Lebanon, and an effigy mound called Serpent Mound, south of Hillsboro. More information on the early Adena and Hopewell cultures is available further east at Chillicothe. There, the Best Western Adena Inn is from 2 to 5 miles from the Majestic Theater, the Chillicothe Paints Minor League, the original State Capitol, Mound City Indian Burial, the Adena State Memorial, and the Tecumseh outdoor Drama. Places to stay in Chillicothe, Hillsboro, Lebanon, and Miamisburg Sandusky OH (north central Ohio, on Lake Erie) North of Ohio's state capitol Columbus and between Toledo and Cleveland on Lake Erie, Sandusky is a popular vacation site for water fun. For example, Best Western Cedar Point is 2 miles from the Cedar Point amusement park and from the Sandusky Speedway. Cedar Point is called the "Roller Coaster Capitol of the World". Another option is the EconoLodge of Cedar Point with Sports City, Goofy Golf, marinas, and Cedar Point nearby, Edison Museum 10 miles away, and the African Lion Safari 12 miles away. But Sandusky is also the home of a Great Wolf Lodge indoor and outdoor water park. The Fort McKenzie 12 Level Fun Park is on site. Cedar Point Amusement Park is 3 miles away. Nearby are museums, golf, and the Lake Erie Islands. Where else to stay in Sandusky. Coolville OH (southeast of Athens, along the Hocking River and near the Ohio River) Ever wanted to spend the night in Coolville? Your best chance seems to be the Hocking River Getaway cottage. Coolville is east of Shade, Ohio, and near the unincorportated communities of Torch and Frost. The Appalachian Highway (US-40 and OH-32) passes Coolville to the north. Ohio University is in nearby Athens. Where to stay in Coolville or Athens.
