Cora E. Scott b 11 December, 1868 d 16 August 1957 - aged 88 Buried at Venice Cemetery, Ross, OH Otterbein University's records first list Cora Scott as a junior in 1890. A friend and fellow student with Maybelle Duncan George and her younger cousin, Leoti Duncan Longman, Cora graduated with the class of 1891. Cora never married. She is mentioned as one of the people who came to be with Leoti Longman in her final illness. In the 1950s, Maybelle George's daughter, Francie Ertel, was still visiting Cora Scott at Otterbein Home in Lebanon, OH. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
In 2004, Stephen D. Grinch, Archivist, at Otterbein College provided a copy of this original post card picture which
belongs to the Otterbein College Archives. The close-up of Cora to the right is taken from that picture, which shows Cora and her parents standing outside their home in Sater (date unknown).
Barbara Noble (see "Notes from Barbara", below) states that Cora lived near the railroad tracks at Fernald, and that this old house was deserted for years before it eventually was torn down.

In it is listed the marriage of Henderson W. Scott and Aurelia Atherton on February 22, 1865. Hope this is what you're looking for. If I can be of further help, please don't hesitate to ask. It says that Cora's parents were Aurelia (1842-1910) and Henderson W. Scott (1838-1920); they married in 1865. They had two children, William H. (1866-1888) and Cora (1868-1957). Cora lived not far from the railroad tracks at Fernald. She never married.
Her old home stood for years deserted, and is now gone.
That's about all I can help you with. My father and his family came from New Baltimore also, so I have a special place in my heart for that area.

We do not have much information on Cora Scott. We hold in our collection her Sunday School notebook,
which has a picture postcard of herself and her parents in front of their farmhouse, but no specific location
is given. She is first listed in the college catalogue in 1890 as a Junior from Sater, Ohio (near the Ohio-Indiana
border just north of Cincinnati). Presumably that is where she returned to after graduation. There is also an
article written by Cora about the Young Womens Christian Association in the April 1891 Aegis (our student
newspaper of the time), but it contains no biographical information. She graduated from Otterbein in 1891.
Unfortunately that is all I could find about her in our collection.

Nancy,
I don't know if you have this or not; but Spring Grove Cemetery records are online. You can see the Longman records here:

By the way, the last address they give for Rufus is in my neighborhood. Small world.
