plow
The old plow is a double V-shared sod-busting plow used to break up the prairie sod in the 1850's-1860's. It presently (Oct 2000) sits on land owned by the Bennett's 2 miles East of Star Chapel Methodist Church (see photo below).

Empire
The Empire Presbyterian Church Memorial, located on the site of the church, is a replica of the original church which burned about 15 years ago.

StarChapel
Original Star Chapel Church, at Empire Prarie, from the photo collection of Jessie Bennett Crawford. Per John Bennett: "The building in the back has to be the outhouse. Think it was still there when I was growing up in the 1940's, however a much larger and newer church was erected in the early 1900's. By 1950 they had running water and converted an old storage room to a toilet."

StarChapel
The old Blue School district split and became Garfield and Empire School districts about 1879. These articles are old, but I don't know how old. Probably were printed in the 1930's or 40's.
