Union, Miss., in Co. I of the 6th Battalion Miss. Vols, which became the
46th Miss. Inf. On his compiled service record is "Killed in action at Vicksburg July 1, '62. Final statement not rendered." See final statement of pay account below.

 The small print under the Remarks section reads, "The 6th (Balfour's) Battalion Mississippi Infantry was organized about April, 1862. It was afterward increased to a regiment and its designation changed to the 46th Regiment Mississippi Infantry by S. O. No. 32. Hd. Qrs. 2d Dist., Dept. M and E. La., dated Vicksburg, Dec. 2, 1862." |
 The small print near the bottom reads, "This register appears to have been compiled in the Adjutant and Inspector General's Office from returns furnished by Hospital and by Regimental and Company Officers." |

| In this final statement of pay account for our soldier, he is described as born in Hinds Co., Miss., age 32, five-ft and eight-in tall, of fair complexion, light hair, and gray eyes. Before the war, he was a farmer. He enlisted at Union, Newton Co., Miss., on 3 May 1862. After his death, "his effects were taken possession of by his relatives." This final statement of pay account was given "at Mobile Jan 27th 1864." | |
