Austin A. Trescott was born 1837 in Ohio. He died 1929 (MCGR). He enrolled 15 May 1861, age 26, in Vicksburg, Miss., in Capt. D. N. Moody's Company, Mississippi Volunteers, which later became Co. A, 21 Reg Miss Inf.

The "Record" card of his compiled service record gives his birth place as Mississippi. His occupation was given as clerk and his residence as Vicksburg. His age at enlistment was given as 25 and his marital status as single.

From 25 May to 3 Jun 1864 he was in Howard's Grove General Hospital in Richmond. On 30 Jul 1864, he was on the register of the 21 Reg Miss Inf Hospital, complaining of rheumatism. He returned to duty 26 Aug. He was admitted 9 Dec 1864 to Stuart's Draft (Virginia) Hospital, from where he reportedly deserted 16 Dec 1864.

He was captured 6 Apr 1865 at High Bridge and received at City Point, Maryland, 14 Apr. He was a prisoner of war at Point Lookout, Maryland, until 6 Jun 1865, war's end.
