W. H. Denio enlisted 15 May 1861 at Vicksburg for the length of the war. He was born in Mississippi, was at that time a bricklayer by trade, was single, and age 25.

Toward the end of his first year, he re-enlisted.

Toward the end of the war, he was detailed as a littler bearer.
