Dr. G. A. & S. V.
Cameron

Dr. Granville Alexander Cameron was b. 1818 and d. 1864, near Bovina, Miss.

In CSA service, his rank was Private. He was a doctor in the 2nd Batn. State Troops Miss. Inf, Co. E, and was listed under General and Staff Officers, Corps, Division and Brigade Staffs, Non-com. Staffs and Bands. He enlisted 26 Aug 1862 in Warren Co. for an "Indefinite" period and appears on the company muster roll of Aug 26 - Sep 6 of that year.

Dr. Cameron died at age 46 when a Union soldier approached his horse-drawn carriage and shot a gun off close to his horse's ear. The frightened horse bolted, upsetting the carriage and tossing the doctor out. The doctor hit his head against a tree and died. A daughter was in the carriage with him, but she was unhurt.

He is interred with his wife, Susan Virginia Smith (b. 1827) in Cedar HIll Cemetery.
