He enlisted in the 10^th Miss. Inf., Co. F, Co. S. He was Captain, age 30, when appointed asst. surgeon 17 Apr 1861 per order War Department. He was transferred 3 Jun 1862 to hospital service, Canton. He also was stationed at Camp Phillips near Pensacola, and at other duty stations as needed. See his record at f old3.com/image/20/69855248/
James R. Barnett enlisted 17 April 1861 in Canton, Miss., in the 10th Miss Reg. Vol. At that time, he was appointed asst surgeon by order of the War Department.	He entered on his duty station, after which he was transferred around to other locations as needed.
