A memorial stone for Jose Rock has been placed in the Cooper Wells section of Cedar Hill (Vicksburg City Cemetery).

Above card shows Jose Rock was in 28th La Inf (Thomas'), Co. B.

Card below, left, gives his enlistment date of 29 Mar 1862, New Orleans.  He signed up for the length of the war.

He was absent from the company muster roll for 30 Apr to 31 Aug 1862 having been sent to the General Hospital on 25 Aug.

On the Sep and Oct 1862 company muster roll, it is noted that he "Died at Mississippi Springs Hospital Oct 5/62." Another entry in the compiled service record stated that he died of disease.

Pvt. Jose Rock's widow Annie Procell appears before the Justice of the Peace "saying she is the widow of Hosea Rock late deceased a private in Co. B Elams Guards, 28th Regt La Vols stationed at Vicksburg." Farther down we read "...this application is made to enable her to obtain from the government what may be due to her as the widow of the said deceased." She made her mark or signed. The application was dated 24 Oct 1862.

State of Louisiana, Parish of DeSoto
In the last paragraph we read, Annie Procell, widow of Hosea Rock, appeared in the district court and declared that she signed and executed the power of attorney made in the first paragraph to Phillip Procell, also in the Elams Guards, commanded by Capt. A. B. Hailey. Acting in her behalf, Phillip Procell could collect from the government all that was due Hosea (Jose) Rock.
