Diana,

Thanks for pointing out that we do not know for sure that Mary White was the
wife of Samuel Bozeman. However, there is a bit of circumstantial evidence
which might point you in that direction but which falls far short of proving
the marriage.

As you pointed out, Meady Bozeman may have been named after Meady White.
Also, Mordicai Bozeman may have been named after Mordicai White. I believe
that there was also a Luke White but I don't have my notes handy. I also
have a note which says that Meady White had a daughter named Mary White.
And, I believe we also know that John White, Sr. had a daughter named Mary.
And, we know that Samuel bought land adjacent to John White, Sr. from John
White, Jr. from the following abstract. Many times when a man married, he
bought land from the family of the bride.

11 Feb 1714/15 - John White, Jr, of Chowan Precinct, planter, to Samuel
Bowman of ye same precinct for 4 pounds current money, 275 acres joining
John
White, Sr, Ballard Sewell, and Parker, with all houses etc. Witnesses: John
Dew and Edward Benwick.

We know from a land sale in 1735 that Samuel's wife was named Mary. This of
course, presumes that the Samuel who sold land on the Nottoway River in 1735
is the same Samuel who was in Chowan County, NC 15 years earlier.

So, even though we may have strong suspicions that Samuel's wife was Mary
White, we really can't prove it. But, in my opinion, she is a leading
candidate!

Steve

-Samuel Bozeman of Perquimans Co/Chowan pct. in NC abt 1690.
married to Mary White

- This is total hearsay, and as it is my hearsay, I want to emphasize that
it is total speculation. It was based solely on the fact that the first
use I found of the name Meady was in the White family. That lead me to
speculate that his mother might have been of the White family as they were
on the same migration path from Isle of Wight co VA to NC. But this is not
something I have in my own group sheet, and now it is out there on the
internet for all time.

Maybe someone will prove it now.
