Old Notes...
We Hate To Toss

How many times have we sat in front of a microfilm reader, taking notes from original records that don't directly pertain to our objectives. They are just too fascinating to pass up. The same goes for courthouse searching jotting away from the big books. The unpolished notes barely get to disk, and we wonder from time to time if there is something on there that is the very link someone needs? So, here is one of my old disks, labled "Old Charlotte Stuff." Some of it has been converted from Kaypro II CP/M Perfect Writer to Word Star CP//M. Then from CP/M to Word Star DOS. Then from Word Star to Word Perfect 4.0, then to 5.0 and now to 6.1. That they have survived to tell the tale, is more than a miracle. If I took the time to polish them, they would never get to this page. So, I offer them "as is" and guarantee nothing! Except something possibly to recheck, if anything relates to your lines.

There is not much you can do, except run a search for your surname of interest, and then keep in mind the various spellings.

Feel free to send your like notes to include--notes that, because of brevity or such, are not suitable for the Archives. Of course, we are speaking of notes from original records or from copies of them, not from published resources.

We will try this for awhile and see if others can add to it. Just my own research in Charlotte has not been broad enough to be of interest to the public as a whole. Thanks. Let me hear from you on this. JoLee Spears

I have observed the Coleman A. Vaughan of Williamson & Rutherford Cos., Tenn. and supposed he was the same as the following married in Lunenburg Co., Va. and appeared on the 1820 Census of Charlotte Co. I have no further information, but would be interested in knowing if you have learned anything further re his parents. It appears there were a number of families migrating to Williamson and area 1810-1830, from the Charlotte Co., Va. area. Among some who seemed allied were Stokes, Haynes, Tatums, & Redmans. Letter to Katherine Walkup

    Dear Katherine,

I missed my trip to Charlotte Court House last summer, so my
    husband and I
suddenly decided to take a day off and go. I had a long list of
    small items
to check. I had the will of John Haynes copied, to be sure
    nothing was left
off that might prove helpful. We examined the Deed Indexes for a
    period after
recording of will of Philadelphia Haynes, in Tenn. Looked first
    for Haynes,
then any name I could think of who might have been appointed P/A.
    Found
several items re George Redmond and another Redmond, of
    Williamson &
Rutherford Counties, Tenn. re Redmond estate. I was quite
    disappointed, as I
    feel something should be there.

Right after I first received the John S. Haynes info. with your
    name on it, I
received a call from Bel Wise (descendant of Edward Gregory) of
    Weatherford,
Texas. The Walkup name sounded familiar to me, but did not ring
    a bell with
her. About a week ago, I was searching for something in my
    Rutherford Co.,
Tenn. Cem. book, and noticed the name, William Walkup, to whom I
    sent check
five years ago for the book. Then I noticed it was your address!
    That is
what you call 'round the world and back. I sent to Utah for name
    of patron
who submitted marriage of John S. Haynes; then to Oregon for
    contact with the
patron; and now back to Ridley!

     Lee Notes

In Charlotte Co. Va. Will Bk 2:298 is will of John Lee, Senior of
Charlotte County, dated 7 Nov 1804 and recorded 4 Feb 1805. The
    will names:
    1. Thomas Lee - son [remained Char.Co.]
    2. Jane Pearson
    3. Polly Almond [m.Hezekiah Almond,lived Maury Co.Tn]
    4. John Lee jr
    5. Edward Lee
    6. Joseph Lee7. Henderson Lee
    8. Sally Crenshaw, chil. of.
    9. William Lee - son
    Signed: John Lee

The estate was divided in 9 portions, with certain provisions.
The will does not state relationship of all legatees, but
Charlotte Co. marriage records show Jane/Jeane, Polly & Sarah
were daus. of John Lee. My own deduction is that Henderson Lee
was a grandson, the only child of Ambrose Lee, dec'd, thus
received a full one ninth portion.
