Notice in the Covington Leader: "The total number of discharges registered in the office of Solon Beaver, county register, now exceeds 800. With just over 2,000 service men from Tipton County, the process of returning soldiers to civilian life would appear to be progressing at a rate considerably faster than the rate of entry into the service."

Past Halfway Mark

More than half of the county's 2028 men in service before the end of the war have now received thir discharges. The county resgister's record listed 1009 discharges through Dec. 31. December was the record month, to date, for discharges with 223 being recorded during the month.

Discharge at a Halt

There have been so few discharges recorded in the office of Solon Beaver, county register, in the last month that the return of service men may be said to have slowed to a halt.

There are a little over 1400 discharges recorded in Mr. Beaver's office. That figure represents about two-thirds of the county's men in service.

7 Jun 1946

1560 Discharges Recorded

A clerk in the county register's office Monday morning disclosed that the total number of discharges recorded is now 1560. An unofficial estimate--there being no official figure available--of the number of men from the county to go into the armed forces is 2800.
