These pictures were downloaded from Ebay and appear to be the older stone above chisled down with state Letters and the other a distant picture of the marker below. The marker was on the Middlesboro side of the mountain.

This is the marker I remember just off the Middlesboro
side of the Cumberland Gap in the 1950's and 1960's.
