The original library was located north of the Princess Theatre, on Second Street (Alva Eaton Street now) north of Broad.

It moved to its present location in 1931.

The library was started by the Civic Club which consisted of seventy members. Susie Mallette was the first librarian.

As you notice, "Rest Room" was painted on the window. It had one of the first public restrooms in Humeston !

The library has been financed by taxes since 1925 and former residents often leave money to the library to keep it going. The building is owned by the IOOF which is still located upstairs.
