* GROSSER Familienwappen:
(21st Century Wappen)Symbolism -
A modified form of the traditional 18th Century crest with 13th Century and pre-Christian symbolsism, of the old wandering pilgrim's staff & tower, in the form of an obelisk, on the generic Schlesian GROSSER Family Crest (GROSSER Familienwappen). A TOWER on OR [GOLD] symbolising celestial light, joy and honour and in this case, mottled and very worn, eustacheon background field, crossed with a SABLE STAFF, that's manifested here, as a sword with a glowing blade-tip, ..."cutting through ignorance with the sword of knowledge." The rampant lion, with it's feet on the book [Education] and the entrance to the tower gate [Restricted Opportunities], gestures to the hilt of the sword. The lion, in the dominant foreground, indicates the marriage of English and French traditions, that have dominated (in both Australia & New Zealand) obscuring, the original German, family traditions.The traditional winged helmet respresents freedom, speed, wisdom and superiority, ...tempered by humility. Surrounded by a tattered, torn and slashed cascading, golden knight's mantle. The VERT [GREEN] foreground respresent the dividing waters between family and home: as is New Zealand to Australia and Sud Australien to Schlesien, Preussen. The traditional rampant vertical staff, above the helm, in the original, has been removed.
A note to the purists, there are deliberate visual mistakes, in keeping with good Medieval tradition (ie. God is in the details, thus it's folly for us to ever imitate the handiwork) ...leaving the work unfinished.
* WRIGHT Familienwappen:
Symbolism -
The most typical WRIGHT Family Crest, shows three facing spotted leopards: symbolic French regalia, originally representing speed, instinct and selective cunning; here also representing the intermarriage of royal Spanish, French and Welsh families. Mounted over a LIGHT-BLUE field, crossed by two horizontal bands, or shown alternativelty as two wavy SILVER horizontal bands; representing the ocean-going, errant and valedictorious, medieval knights. Mounted with a traditional helm, with a blue and gold mantle.
An alternative WRIGHT crest, showing three SILVER, fluer-de-leif's, the colour of fidelity, in the form of the most typical French royal motif, separated with a thick, upturned SILVER triangular emblazoned chevron, with a central, bright GOLD, pentagonal STAR. Showing veneration to both Christianity and the specific aspirations and mysteries of French medieval chivalry. Three SABLE of pikestaff heads, the principal long-range weapon of medieval footsoldiers, adorn the top of the field of the SABLE eustacheon, over a band of SILVER.
