From Texas to Colorado

Mark Moss finished one last check of the 1929 Tudor’s engine that
brought us back from Breckenridge, Colorado, six years ago. It was
new then; a replacement for one that never made its way from Texas
to Colorado during our first attempt at the High Country Tour. This
time things would be different, we hoped. We were ready and had all
of our "lifelines" in place. And, to be on the safe side, Rollon Weaver
helped Mark with the finishing touches.
Max Phillips and Rebecca Jordan, who managed a last minute coup
of getting tour reservations, performed a yeoman’s job of getting themselves
and their 1928 Tudor ready to go.
The Lone Star members met late afternoon on June 14, 2001 at Seward
Junction. From there, we drove to Brady for the first leg of the more
than 2,000 miles round trip. At the junction we received an official
send off from Rollon and Glenda Weaver who braved the afternoon heat
with best wishes and bon voyage signs.
In Brady, Texas, we joined Lyle and Pam Meek with the Vag-A-Bon club
members, and we mapped out the final details for the trip to Breckenridge,
Colorado.

On the trip north, we tried manifold cooking
for a burger lunch before stopping for the night in Hereford, Texas,
which was the same place that the 1995 tour stopped.

Made it into Colorado! Now on to Breckenridge.
The next day we bought sandwich fixings for a leisurely picnic in the
park in Springlake, Colorado, and spent the night in LaJunta, Colorado.
Then, before heading into Breckenridge, on Sunday, we detoured to
Royal Gorge, crossing the wooden bridge
dedicated in October 1929. Visitors to the bridge were as thrilled
as the team members by the photo ops and taste of history.
