EARLY ELECTORAL ROLLS OF THE EAST COAST AREA

as transcribed by Stephen Donald from microfiche held in H.B. Williams Memorial Library, Gisborne

Return to Home Page

This page contains lists of electors transcribed in the course of other research. These are a valuable resource for tracing residence and land holdings, especially in the period up to 1881. As some files are too big to display on this main page, links to other pages are provided.

An excellent reference work which explains franchise in New Zealand from 1850s to 1980s is New Zealand electoral atlas by Alan McRobie (Wellington, : GP Books, 1989. ISBN 0477013848) which should be available in most public libraries. This also contains 60 maps showing electoral boundaries over the years.
