Notes on the Voters

The Act of December 3, 1832 divided original Cherokee County into ten counties;  but in the drawing of the Lottery and in the granting of the land and gold lots, they were treated only as in Cherokee.   The lots were either 160 acres or 40 acres depending on where they were. There were 4 Sections each divided into Districts then into Lots.  (A typical deed might read LL 149-14-1.  This would mean Lot 149 in the 14th District of the First Section.) This map is of the original 10  Counties.  Numbers are the District Numbers. For a larger view of the map  click here.
