View 1 of downtown Newton is looking Northeast towards the Rescue Building. These are some of the oldest remaining buildings in Newton. A service station once sat where the Rescue Office is now.

View 2 of downtown Newton is looking Northwest towards City Hall. The Commadore Hotel once stood where the City Hall and Southtrust Bank now stands. In the background is a tall white building. This is the old Masonic building and has housed several businesses over the years. On either side of that building stood other buildings that are now torn down.

....................

View 3 of downtown Newton is looking Southeast. Again this is another view of the oldest remaining buildings in Newton. The building on the near end has housed several grocery stores and restaurants over the years. This row of buildings burned about 1888. At that time the front of the businesses were facing Killebrew Street. When they were rebuilt the fronts were facing College Street since it had replace the back street as the main road for traffic.

View 4 of downtown Newton is looking southward down College Street which is also known as Alabama 123 and 134. These highways meet and cross in Newton. Highway 123 travels North and South while Highway 134 travels East and West. Highway 123 at one time was one of the main routes between South Alabama and North Alabama before US 231 was built.
