SEARCHES FAMILY TREES MAILING LISTS MESSAGE BOARDS

A Pictorial History of Newton is a book that I am writing about the town of Newton. Since 2001 I have been interviewing local citizens, gathering pictures, taking pictures, reviewing records at the Dale County Courthouse and driving the old roads in order to bring together all of this information into one book for the preservation of our local history.

There are many books available about Dale County. Included in those books are bits and pieces of Newton history. My book is about Newton only. There may be bits and pieces about the other towns in Dale County but this book will be ours, about our town.

I have gathered a lot of information, but, there is still a lot of information to be had. For the most part I am doing this research alone. I have had some help but the leg work is almost solo. I am willing to do most of the work I just need help from others to be willing to share what information they may have. Some have old town pictures, some have rememberances, some have family pictures, some have documents, and the list goes on and on. Please allow me to look at your information and be the judge if it will be applicable to my book. Many times I have looked at some pictures that appear to be insignificant only to find items in the background that add to the history. Such an item would be a building. It could very well be the only picture we might have of that building, who knows.

I cannot say how thankful I am to certain folks in town who have opened their family albums, their scrapbooks and their homes in order to let me glean the history that they have preserved. My dream is to have all of this history preserved in one set of books for our future generations to have and hold. I need everyone who reads this to consider sharing any bit of information that they may have to help this project along.

It has become evident to me that one volume is not going to be enough. The years 1812 to 1900 alone will be enough for the first book. I am working on this in order to go ahead and get some of this information on record. I still have many papers and courthouse records to read and this takes time, lots of time. If you are interested in helping then send me an email and we will see what we can come up with.
