Over the years many records regarding our ancestors were lost or destroyed in fires, floods and other natural disasters. Newspapers contain much of the information that may not be found elsewhere such as births, marriages, deaths, court notices, etc. They hold many glimpses of information in their community news such as "William Jones and wife recently returned from a trip to St. Louis to visit their daughter Mrs. E. Smith". From this small mention we learn that William's daughter now lives in St. Louis and married a man named Smith. Newspapers also provide us with many fascinating details about the lives of our ancestors from the businesses they frequented to the hardships and triumphs they endured while building a new life in a new land. Many newspapers managed to survive the test of time and can now be found at most state libraries on microfilm and are available thru inter-library loan for viewing at your local library. For more information contact the newspaper microfilm department for the state you are interested in or your local library.
The links below will take you to the abstracts currently on our site for that state and are then organized by county, year and month. Off-site links are listed at the bottom of the county tables. These pages are updated frequently so be sure to check back often for your particular interests.
