North Vietnamese Propraganda Leaflet

If you do not hear the music playing, try refreshing the page. I have been unable to ensure the music playing every time the page is opened. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks.

The following is a translation of a North Vietnamese propaganda leaflet captured in 1969 during a village raid in Ca Mau District by the U. S. Navy Swift Raider Forces supported by the U. S. Coast Guard Cutter Mendota. A Naval Intelligence Lieutenant, fluent in the Vietnamese language, translated this leaflet to the best of his ability. This letter is an example of one of the means that the North Vietnamese used to falsely influence and provide morale for the Viet Cong.

To view the original leaflet click here. (Please be patient while original loads.) The border on the original leaflet contains a drawing in the top right corner of a Vietnamese displaying the North Vietnamese flag , and in the top left corner drawings of a North Vietnamese soldier with a rifle and a bundle of rice, and a U. S. B-52 airplane going down in flames. Other drawings around the border falsely portray dominance of and prosperity for the North Vietnamese over the South Vietnamese and their allies.

RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED

Dear all countrymen in the countryside - The committed met on the battlefield to celebrate Tet Mau with the countrymen and congratulate them on the year just over greatly encouraged and enthused.

The honorable committee respectfully questions and asks profoundly which families were arrested by the enemy, which families live in fear of being wounded by the enemy, which families are ill, which families the enemy stopped, murdered, or destroyed their property.

1967 our nation had greater victories that all the years before. Private troops deployed into many established villages succeeded in amassing glory. This glory belongs to the countrymen for your hard work.

The year passed - although the enemy dealt destruction and damage but we children of the nation perserve powerfully, clinging to precious unity, helping each other in difficulties to emulate and produce a greater amassing of force than all years. Be eager to take part in the guerrilla movement to kill the invader (aggressor), to protect the village, to build a stable liberated countryside, and to stop all citizens who help the enemy. To endeavour to contribute, one shall endeavour to assist heavily for the glorious victory.

The honorable committee ardently lauds and praises your courageous fights and efforts to establish a good countryside.

This year we children of the nation celebrate Spring with a lively, exciting atmosphere, overflowing with enthusiasm more than ever before. But destructive Americans and lackeys continue to strike destruction in our countryside more fiercely; therefore, the steps to take this year more than times past, we each, young and old, boys and girls, must become valiant soldiers to exterminate the enemy to follow the words of Ho Chu Tich. Avail yourself to finish the fighting, raise yourself above all difficulties, cling to the reinforced nation, be healthy and fight. Devote your strength for resistance with everyone in the country to the end for the hope of a good home.

We are resolved to strike a glorious blow - greater than before!
