Obituary - Annie L. Anderson Peterson
Anna was born November 29, 1872 on the homestead farm of her
parents at Swaburg, three miles south and east of Uehling,
Nebraska, and departed this life January 3, 1946 at the age of 73
years, one month and four days, at the home of her son Earl, near
Lyons.
She was one of eleven children born to Lars Peter and Christina
Anderson, five of who died in infancy. She was preceded in death
by her parents and brother William E. Anderson.
She grew to womanhood in the Swaburg community, and on December 18,
1892, was united in marriage to Henry C. Peterson in Omaha,
Nebraska. They made their home in Omaha, and to them were born six
children, namely, Laura M. Johnson, Edith Mildred Anderson, Walter
W. and Emily C. Anderson, Earl L. and Marian A. Erickson. Of this
family group, her husband and son Walter H. and daughter Emily C.
Anderson, have passed on.
In 1914, the family moved from Omaha to a farm, three and one-half
miles northwest of Lyons, She lived in Lyons several years after
leaving the farm.
Her life was characterized as one of unselfish devotion to her
family and many friends. She was most happy when doing things for
others and will be sorely missed. Besides her children, she lives
to mourn her passing, twelve grandchildren and one great-
grandchild, also her four brothers, Andrew L. of Bassett, Nebraska,
Oscar E. of Lyons, Arthur B. of Macy, and Herman M. of Oakland, and
other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Peterson was a member of the Lyons Methodist Church where she
was a faithful attendant.
Interment was made in the Lyons Cemetery.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Annie and Henry were married in the 1890's and Henry worked in the
offices of the Union Pacific Railway as a bookkeeper. His father
had worked for the railway, also. My mother and dad (Andrew and
Jennie) spent their honeymoon in Omaha and visited at their home.
They lived in the Lothrop School area and were living in Omaha at
the time of the Tornado on Easter Sunday in 1913. I dimly remember
Dad (Andrew Anderson) worrying about Annie and family.
The girls and boys used to come to visit Grandma Anderson on the
farm at Lyons during vacation. Emma was a frail little girl who
had and enlarged heart at birth.
I remember many happy times with my cousins. Marian and I
graduated in the same class, 1927.
How lucky we were to live so close to our grandparents on both
sides of the family and grow up knowing all our cousins.
There were more uncles than aunts, but I loved them all.
Uncle Herman was in high school at Jefferson before I started to
school. He had rheumatic fever as a boy and was quite ill.
