New home of the Littleton and Chatham Historical Society
(former Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church)

In August of 2014, the LCHS received the former Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church from the Presbytery of North Central Iowa. We are grateful for their efforts to preserve the historical integrity of the building. Since acquisition, we upgraded the septic system to make it operational again, replaced a leaking section of roof, received a grant for display cases and archival storage materials (from the Buchanan County Community Foundation), and installed a new sign with new logo out front (funded by the Buchanan County Supervisors). We continue with other ongoing projects and hope for approval on our nomination application for the National Register of Historic Places.

The building is available for public use. We have the chapel area available for small weddings and the basement with kitchen available for meals and other events. Call (319) 415-1175 for more information.

Join the LCHS today and help our fundraising and preservation efforts. Memberships are $10 a year and include two newsletters. A lifetime membership is $100. Checks can be sent to the Littleton and Chatham Historical Society, 1503 River Road Blvd., Independence, IA 50644.

We will have a dedication for the public when the building is open for use and exhibits are ready. In the meantime you can keep posted on our activities via our newsletters and by attending our meetings. The next scheduled meeting is October 13, 2014 at 7 pm. We are also having an ongoing scrap drive fundraiser; the tub is located in the parking lot. If you have scrap metal to dispose of, please keep us in mind.
