BIOGRAPHY: Benjamin Harris and his wife Jane Crampton of Washington Co., TN have many descendants who settled in Monroe Co. TN (See additional articles on Harris, Harrill, Wilson, Bayless families) Benjamin born 22 Dec. 1741 Prince George Co., Maryland died 26 Sept 1820 Jonesboro, Washington Co., TN. He was married ca 1767 Jane Crampton b. 19. Nov. 1746 Maryland. D. 18 June 1828 Jonesboro, Washington Co., TN. Both are buried on the "home"place" near Jonesboro in the Telford Community on Hall Rd. Off of Hwy 353. Benjamin Harris served in the Revolutionary War. Before coming to TN with their children, they lived for a time in Rockingham Co., VA.

The children of Benjamin Harris and Jane Crampton are: Rachael Harris b. 1769 married Benjamin Drane (Drane family had an original land grant from Lord Baltimore. A member of the family still has paper of the land grant) @. Benjamin C Harris- According to Worth S. Ray's TENNESSEE COUSINS, Benjamin C. Harris owned and operated a "hatter's shop" in Elizabethton, Carter Co., TN. (2) Jane Harris Married John Green Esquire. (3) Dr. John Crampton Harris Married Sarah Ann Harrison Reagan 1773-1842 Daughter of Jeremiah Reagan. Their son, Dr. Alexander Nelson Harris b. ca 1817 mar. 1845 Carter Co. to Edna Haynes b. ca 1830 (daughter of David Haynes. Dr. AN. Harris was a medical doctor as well as a methodist Minister. Dr. Alexander and Edna's son Nathaniel E. Harris 1846-1929, later becam "Governor of Georgia" (Nathaniel E. Harris Autobiography). and (5) Sarah Harris b. 1775 Married James Parker.

Benjamin and Jane's other children are: 6 George Carroll Harris b. Jan 1781 PA d. e May 1865, burried Madisonville next to his first wife Sarah "Sallie" McCray

This indenture made this 12 day of March in the year of our Lord 1798 Between Sabastion Hilton of the County of Washington and State of Tennessee of the one part and Benjamin Harris of the county and State aforesaid on the other part. Witnessth that the sd. Sabastian Hilton for and in consideration of the sum of 600 Dollars to Him in Hand paid the receipt where of is hereby acknowledged Hath and by these presents Doth grant bargain sell alen in fee off and confirm unto the said Benjamin Harris his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land containing one hundred acres be the same more or less lying and being in the County of Washington including the Head of a Spring that runs Wm Noddings plantation being part of a Tract that sd Nodding now lives on.

Beginning at a Stake thence Ninety five deg run west 100 poles to a Stake then South eighteen deg w 96 poles 25 links to a hickory then South 27 deg by West 46 poles to a stake then East 152 poles to a Stake te on Jonathan birds line North 126 poles and 13 links to the Beginning. With all and singular the Woods Waters Watercourses profits commodities hereditaments appurtenances Whatsoever to the sd Tract of Land Belonging or appertaining and the revertion and revertions remainder rents_____Thereof and all the Estate right title in trust property claim and demand of him the sd. Sabastion Hilton_____of in and ato the same and every part______Thereof either in Law or Equity to Have and to hold the sd. One Hundred acres of Land with the appurtances unto the sd Benjamin Harris his heirs and assigns forever and the sd. Sabastion Hilton for him and his heirs.
