Irma Louise Garrett was the third child born to Alexander Elton Garrett and wife, Mary Lucy Spiller. A sister, Elizabeth Delilah, had been born in 1905 but died at birth. Her brother, Charles Fielding Garrett, was born in 1906. She grew up in a house not far from the Spiller homeplace, Esperanza.

Irma is first row, far right, in the black dress. Her parents moved into Willis so that she could attend Willis High School where she graduated in 1926.

After high school, she attended Kidd-Key College in Sherman, TX. This school was originally called North Texas Female College, changing it's name to Kidd-Key in 1919. This was the forerunner of SMU.

Irma married John Butler Terrell, a local Conroe boy, on 10 Aug 1928. Together, they raised three children in Beaumont, TX; Mary Ann, Mildred Carolyn and John Butler, Jr. Irma was fascinated by her family history and began researching her family lines. Genealogy became a lifelong hobby that she enjoyed very much. She joined the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1965 on her lineage from George Diuguid of Virginia. After the death of her husband in 1989, she suffered a stroke and went to live with her daughter, Carolyn, in Rockport, TX. She remained there until 1995 when she went to live near her grand daughter, Karen "Candy" Lawless in Katy, TX. Irma Louise who was called "Honey" by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, passed away on 21 Jan 1996 at her home in Katy. She was laid to rest next to her husband, John Butler Terrell, in Willis at the Old Danville Cemetery on Shepard Hill Road.
