(Originally Danville, Texas)

SUSANNAH BULLOCK, born 17 Jan 1792 in GA, was the daughter of William Bullock, (1 Mar 1764, Granville Co., NC - Sep 1834 Pike Co., MS) and Elizabeth Oliphant, (29 Oct 1764 - 24 Jun 1795, Franklin Co., GA). Her mother died when she was only 3 years old. On 10 Mar 1810 she married Rev. Isaac Tabor in Amite Co., MS. Their Betrothal Bond (1809)can be found in the County Clerk's office of Claiborne Co., MS. The marriage record (1810) is located in Amite Co., MS. Isaac Tabor was a Methodist Circuit Rider Preacher. He became a Preacher in 1807 under the ministry of Rev. Tobias Gibson, pioneer of Methodism in the Mississippi Territory. In 1816 - 1829, they are found in Pike Co., MS. The couple had 9 children, Winnifred, Isaac, Francis Asbury, Hudson, Nathan Sims, Catherine L., Minerva Angelia (or Angelina), Lavinia Harmon, and Nancy W. They travelled from MS to LA (West Feliciana Parish) where they are found on the March 1834 tax rolls. In 1837, the Tabor family, including 8 children, came to Texas. (Their eldest daughter, Winnifred, had married Peter Warren Sandel in 1826 and stayed in MS.)

Family tradition says that Isaac built a raft in LA and floated to Texas, landing in Jefferson Co between 2 Mar 1836 and 1 Oct 1837, which entitled Isaac to a 2nd class conditional headright (No. 61) of 640 acres, said grant was received by Isaac in Jefferson Co., TX on 7 Nov 1839. He lists the family's emigration date on the Clerk's Return (Texas General Land Office, Austin, TX), as 23 July 1839. Isaac can be found on the 1840 Liberty Co., TX tax roll. The family was in Montgomery Co. by 1841 (Montgomery Co. TX tax rolls; abstracted for "The Herald", Summer 1982). Isaac was admitted to "trial" in Montgomery Co., TX during the Fourth Session of the Methodist Conference held in Huntsville, TX on 13 Dec 1843 ("Texas Conference Methodism on the March...1814-1960" printed by The Parthenon Press at Nashville, TN, p. 132).His appointment to the Trinity DistrictCircuit came the next year during the EastTexasMethodist Conference (Ibid, p. 233). And, he is listed as having "located" during the Seventh Session of the Conference held on 10 Mar 1847 (Ibid, p. 134).

On 1 Jun 1846, he received an unconditional land certificate, issued in Montgomery County. He sold this certificate.

In the Montgomery Co., TX Deed Records there are references to different surveys done for the Tabors but they did not purchase a tract of land until 1852. This land was located in the Samuel Lindley Survey, northeast of Danville near Esperanza.

In 1860, an elderly Isaac and Susannah Tabor are in Caldwell Co., TX in the home of their son, Nathan Tabor. Isaac, 73, died that year and is buried in Old Prairie Lea Cemetery, near Prairie Lea, Caldwell Co., TX. There is an Obituary or 'Resolution' by the San Jacinto Temple of Honor, No. 4 from Danville, TX. This Resolution was written on 15 Sep 1860 ("TX Christian Advocate", Vol. VII, No. 8, Galveston, TX, Thursday, 27 Sep 1860).Another obituary for Rev. Tabor appeared in the "Texas Christian Advocate", MECS, Vol. VII, No. 1, Galveston, TX, Thursday, 9 Aug 1860. (A copy of this obituary can be located at the Bridwell Library, SMU, Dallas, TX). One of Isaac's "Day Books" survives and is in the possession of a descendant. A copy and transcription of this 1840 era Day Book (a diary of day to day events) can be found in the Genealogy Dept. of the Montgomery County Public Library in Conroe, TX. Two years after her husband's death, in 1862, Susannah died and is buried in Danville-Shepard Hill Cemetery. It is unknown exactly where she died, but she probably had come back to Danville to be with her daughter, Minerva, during the Civil War since Minerva's husband, Peter Belles Irvine, was away at war.

Susannah's grave is marked by araised, brick, "Louisiana-style" tomb. Their children were as follows:

Winnifred, b. 24 Feb 1811
Isaac, b. 1812 (died in infancy)
Francis Asbury, b. abt. 1814
