W. M. Reding, BURIED DANVILLE CEMETERY, OLD DANVILLE, TEXAS

W. M. REDING

Buried Danville Cemetery

Willis, Texas

(Originally Danville, Texas)

William Monroe Reding was born in Fayette County, Tennessee, on 3 January 1832, the son of Iredell Reding and Nancy Brooks Mayfield.

He moved with his parents to Houston County, Texas, in about 1836 and from there to Danville, Montgomery County, by 1846.

“Monroe,” as he was called, returned to Tennessee and was living with his uncle Alfred Reding in Robertson County in 1850. He was enumerated as a “student.” We can assume that his father sent him to Tennessee for his education, since there were few opportunities for formal education in Texas at the time.

William Monroe returned to Montgomery County by 1857, where he owned land next door to his half-brother, Samuel B. Mayfield. He was living with his parents in Danville at the time of the census of 1860. He was a merchant and had personal wealth of $1800, quite a sum for those days. He was a member of the San Jacinto Masonic Lodge #106, Danville.

Monroe was unmarried when he died at the age of twenty-eight on 22 December 1860. His cause of death is unknown. Samuel B. Mayfield was appointed administrator of his estate.
