Nancy Brooks Mayfield Reding was the daughter of Revolutionary War veteran John Brooks and his wife, Nancy (Ann) Stuart.She was born on the 20th of July 1788 in Virginia and moved with her family to Williamson County, Tennessee, where she married Ambrose Mayfield on the first of December, 1822. The couple had one child, Samuel Brooks Mayfield.
Ambrose died in about 1826, and Nancy moved to Fayette County, Tennessee, with her brother Samuel C. Brooks, her father John Brooks, and her son Samuel Mayfield.
Prior to 1828, Nancy married Iredell Reding, whose wife Martha had died in 1826. Nancy became the stepmother to four children under six, Hulda, Nancy, George W., and James A. Reding. Nancy and Iredell then had two children of their own: William Monroe Reding and Elizabeth C. Reding.
The family was enumerated in Fayette County in 1830. Soon afterwards, Iredell began making inquiries about Texas. He made an exploratory trip in 1836 and is mentioned in the Fairfax Diary.
Within a year, the Reding family had settled at Mustang Prairie in Houston County. From there, they moved to the area that became Danville in Montgomery County.
Nancy wrote her will in 1859 and died in Danville in 1861. She is buried in Shepard Hill Cemetery.
