FRANCES (TADLOCK) CROTWELL

Buried Danville Cemetery

Willis, Texas

(Originally Danville, Texas)

FRANCES (TADLOCK) WOOD CROTWELL was born ca. Oct 1839 in Alabama; her parents were both born in Alabama. She married first, William F. Wood (ca. 1815-1890) in 1857 shortly after the death of William's first wife, Amy, who probably died in childbirth leaving William with 8 children. After Frances married Wm. F. Wood, they next appear on the 1860 and 1880 Coffee Co., AL census records, and by 1900 they are living in Montgomery Co., TX. Their homestead was 92.5 acres in the Wm. Weir Survey, located about five miles NW of Willis, Montgomery Co., TX.

William died in 1890 and Frances married 2nd, Marion Wilson Crotwell, (b. abt. Jan 1870 in AL) who was a Farmer by occupation. Frances and Marion did not have any children. They are enumerated on the 1900 Montgomery Co., TX census. This couple is living next door to I. (Isaac) S. Crotwell, b. Oct 1872 in AL, and his wife, Ludie; Marion's brother. In 1910, they are enumerated in Prec. 1, Montgomery Co., TX, Marion W. is 40 years old and Frances is 70. They indicate that they've been married for 20 years (1890) and they own their home. In 1920, they are still in Prec. 1 of the county. Frances gives a middle initial of "A". They are renting their home. Marion is still Farming. A source on the internet gives Frances' death date as 1921.

One of Frances' stepchildren was John Winston Wood, who was married to Mary Belinda Lindley. John, Mary and several members of their family are buried nearby. One can only imagine that John felt much affection for the stepmother who raised him.
