Buried Danville Cemetery

Willis, Texas

(Originally Danville, Texas)

Jonathan Stark Collard was born 30 August 1807 in Christian County, Kentucky, the son of Elijah Collard and Mary Stark. He was of medium build, fair complexion, and reddish brown hair. The family migrated to Texas in 1833. In November 1835, Jonathan enlisted in the service of the Republic of Texas. He was present at the Battle of San Jacinto, the deciding battle of the war with Mexico.

On 12 May 1842 in Montgomery County, Jon married Miss Nancy Ann Reding. She was the daughter of early Texas settler Iredell Reding. They settled near Danville, and Jonathan became a surveyor. After Nancy’s death in 1859, Jon married Miss Margaret E. Cochran. They were married 27 February 1862 in Polk County.

After the demise of Danville, Jon and Margaret moved to Willis, where he died on 30 August 1896. He is buried next to Nancy in Shepherd Hill Cemetery.
