The Dallas City Cemetery is surrounded by a series of industrial complexes and office buildings.  The main entryway to the cemetery is a narrow path located adjacent to the north end of the office building at 10606 Shady Trail.  There are two other entryways to the cemetery.  Both reached by walking through the vacant lots next to Mar-lan Industries off Myrtle Springs and Double JJ Corp. off Freewood.  The cemetery is divided by a center road running east and west from the chain link fence close to Harry Hines and the building at 10606 Shady Trail.
     The earliest markers, with dates of death of 1932, are found in the northwest corner of the cemetery.
     The first marker is visible immediately inside the Shady Trail entryway.  Almost all of the markers are the original 4 X 4 cement block with a 2 X 3 inch metal plate attached to the cement block with screws.  Over the years some of the metal name plates have been lost or damaged, but identification of most are possible through historical records.  A fewof the cement markers have been replaced with granite stones.  All of the markers face west, are in rows 6 ft apart and columns 3 ft. apart, with the exception of Blocks 11 and 12.  These sections appear to have been reserved for infants, with 2 infants buried in each plot.  Therefore, markers in this area are only 3 feet apart.
      In some instances, city employees listed the date of interment as the date of death on the marker.
