Contrabands - Negros During The Civil War In Missouri

Contrabands

During the Civil War, Negros were called "Contrabands".
A few lists exist in the Provost Marshal Records of them. The lists appear in the files for various reasons. Some people are refugees, many from the South, some went to a military Post for help after their masters were arrested, killed or just left to join the Confederate Army. Some are trying to get to Kansas. Most are in transit for one reason or another, but some were employed by the Union Army or inducted into the Military. These are some of those lists. Hopefully they will be of assistance to someone researching Black ancestors..
