Co. F Reunion

The reunion of Co. F, 42nd Ind. Vols. held at Mackey, this county, on the 7th inst. Was the best reunion ever held by that organization.  More of the old members of the company were present than at any meeting since the war.  The good ladies had prepared and set a table of good things and everybody that was there had all they could eat.  The table was over 175 feet in length.  After dinner the large audience assembled around the stand and listened to a patriotic speech by Mr. Kohlmeyer, of Elberfeld.  The speech was well received and the young gentleman proved that he was an orator.  There were quite a number of good speeches delivered during the day.  The Kid Band of Oakland City rendered good and appropriate music for the occasion.  The company selected Oakland City for their next meeting which is to be on the 7th day of October, 1899.  Officers elected for the coming year are: President, Col. W. M. Cockrum; secretary, Zadoc McCleary; treasurer, John W. McCleary; color-bearer, Jas. T. Bell.  After a good and hearty farewell greeting, company and their friends dispersed to their homes all feeling that they had enjoyed a pleasant reunion

 COMPANY F, FORTY-SECOND

--------------

Annual Reunion Held at Oakland City Fair Grounds Last Saturday

The annual reunion of Company F, 42nd Indiana Volunteer Infantry was held at Oakland City fair grounds last Saturday.  There were present 21 members of the company, about 35 other soldiers and many citizens, and all seemed to enjoy themselves very much.  A sumptuous dinner was served to all present, after which the roll of the company was called and it was sad to hear answered to three-fourths of the names “dead,” “dead.”  The absent surviving members are scattered over many states.
After the roll call, the selection of place and date for the next meeting being in order, it was unanimously agreed to hold two meetings a year hereafter, the next one being set for Saturday, May 19, 1900, in Nathan Martin’s grove, 6 miles south of this city.
The Officers for the organization were then selected, as follows:  Nathan Martin, president, Z. M. McCleary, secretary; John M. McCleary, treasurer; Wm. H. McCleary, flag bearer.
Appropriate addresses were then made by J. D. Armstrong, Charles Mead, Rev. W. P. Dearing, Dr. T. H. Drake, and Col. Cockrum.
The following members of the company answered “present” to the calling of the roll.
