Welcome  to our site! Our mission is to promote historical education about the people and places of the city of Hazel Park, Michigan. Within these pages you will find links to scans and transcriptions from the files of the Hazel Park Historical Commission, as well as pictures from the Hazel Park Palladium and News newspapers (1939-1967). Also included are selected works from Laurie Wilson, a local photographer that documented goings-on in HP for many years. We are in the process of digitizing our collection, and working to preserve the archives that we have.

If you like what you see, please consider a donation to the Commission! Any donations will be used toward further preservation, and a special thanks in this spot. (Also a nice thank you note...) :-)

Below you will find links to the files we have scanned and transcribed so far. We hope you will find them interesting.  We are in need of any sources of history that portray the city of Hazel Park. If you have any items that you would like to share, please contact the City Manager's office.

New Items !
We've removed the graphics on the website so it will load faster. The pictures are still here, just in the photo categories.

Note: The links below for the Census are working now!

Recently the commission has digitized copies of the 1921, 1922, 1924, and 1925 Hazel Park School District # 9 Censuses. These are a resource for anyone that is interested in researching genealogy, or just as the historical items that they are. These are rather large files, so please be patient. Attempts were made to index these using Adobe Acrobat, only the 1925 census is fully searchable. These are PDF (Adobe) files.  Click on the year you want above! (Will take you to an external site)

The Walter P. Reuther Library at Wayne State University has a negative collection  from the Detroit News from the late 19th Century to the present day. Images from Hazel Park have been scanned, click on the link below to go to the website.

Two New Items in the "Other Transcriptions" section, Lucille Lacey, former Historical commisioner, transcribed  land records from Hazel Park at the Oakland County offices in 1976. These are from the years 1824 through 1918 or so.The focus is on families with a histoy in the area. Also, a transcription of the Hazel Park schools (District  8) from 1889 through 1894. Included inside are names of school age children, and names of administrators from that era.

All of the photos that we upload now will be on Flickr. This website allows us to organize by catagory, and allows you to view the photos either by thumbnail, or by slideshow.

Applications for the Commission are availiable at the Hazel Park City Clerk's office, and are open to anyone interested in helping to preserve Hazel Park's history.
