Henry Winthrop Atchue was born October 11, 1914, in North Grafton, son of Henry William and Rosanna (Dupre) Atchue. He graduated from Grafton High School and was a professional musician, playing drums with many big-name bands between 1933 and 1939. He entered the Army Air Corps in 1939 and over the following years he flew many missions in the South Pacific, Pearl Harbor, and European Theaters. After W.W.II, he was assigned to more combat duty in the China Theater. He retired from the Air Force in 1965.
Henry Winthrop Atchue died February 29, 1976, in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Washington, D.C.
He was buried in St. Philip's Cemetery, Grafton, MA.
