James was sgt over the motorpool.  One of the other Ward brothers who lives on Hudson Ave thinks he may have a photo.  He was selectmen and he was an assessor in the town of Grafton.
 
My family info is he was the son of Luther A.D.Ward and Grace (Phelps) Ward.  He was born on November 19, 1920 at 4 Hudson Ave.  He attended public school in Grafton and he went to the 8th grade.
 
His father made him quit school to help with the family chicken farm.  His brother who are living and are Veterans of War are, Luther Ward of Worcester, Massachusetts served in Korea, Daniel Ward of 4 Hudson Avenue Grafton served in Okinowa and Richard Ward of 16 Hudson Aveune who served in Vietman.
 
Our family William H. Ward and Arries Ann (Higgins) Ward were both born into slavery.  After the abolition of slavery, they migrated from BearCreek North Caroline now renamed New Bern North, Carolina, not far from Jacksonville, North Carolina in search of a better life in the 1800s and settled in Grafton, MA..

James only fathered seven children, his wife added two.  Foster kids don't count!  And my mother ( his wife) died 09/01/85, .  My mother was Alice M. Ward  died in 09/01/85.
 
 
GRAFTON— James G. Ward Sr. passed away peacefully June 30, 2005 at the age of 84. He is survived by his 2nd wife , Dolores A. (St. Andre) Ward. 9 children, 4 brothers, 2 sisters, 14 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 other sisters. He was born November 19, 1920 in Grafton to the late Luther A. Ward Sr, and Grace E. (Phelps) Ward. He was the grandson of Arries Ann Ward. Mr. Ward was a World War II veteran serving in The US Army from 1942 to 1947
 
 James Ward was born right there on 4 Hudson Avenue attended public school in Grafton.  He went into the military.  I was an infant living in Grafton, the family moved to Worceser and returned in the late 70's during the Vietnam War.  Had the old sand pit on Hudson Avenue filled in and built homes on the site of  12 Hudson Avenue.  My brothers and Sister are all graduates of the High School in Grafton.  So, it would be fair to say he return in 1970 and remained in Grafton until the time of his death this year.
 
As a matter of fact, for years and years he worked at Jordan's Garage.  He was a former Selectmen as well.
