Zesiger Cemetery

This Zesiger Cemetery is located on the south side of Ohio Route # 78, 2.6 miles from the intersection of Ohio Routes # 78 and # 7 in Clarington, Ohio.  There are 7 tombstones in this cemetery although one of the stones is not planted in the ground and is leaning against another that is firmly planted.  This small cemetery is located between two houses that face Route @ 78 at a distance of about 50 yards from each.

It appears likely that the Zesiger Cemetery could have been originally much larger and that it could have been encroached upon in later years by people claiming the land for a home sites.  The massive size of two of the stones probably served to protect the few remaining graves. At the time of this inventory, stone # 5 was not secured in the ground and was leaning against stone # 6.

 

Approximate width of cemetery (perpendicular to Rt. # 78) is 15 feet

Approximate depth of cemetery (measured parallel to Rt. # 78) is 15 feet

Inventoried, Measured, and Charted November 16, 2003 by R.E. Harrington

 

Latitude/Longitude/elevation measurements for the Zesiger Cemetery were made with a GPS on the headstone of Rudolph Zesiger (1810 – 1861).  Accuracy = +/- 18 feet;  elevation corrected to ground level = 700 feet; latitude = N 39 o 45.441’; longitude = W080o 54.411
