Perico was also called Farwell, and is a class C agricultural ghost dwelling in the plains of Dallam County along US 87, just southeast of the junction with FM 3110, 24 miles northwest of Dalhart.

In 1888, the Fort Worth & Denver Railroad established a siding called Farwell to act as a shipping point for the nearby XIT Ranch.  Nothing much happened until 1905 when the name changed.  The siding consisted of a railroad station, the agent's home, and a few other people.  The W. P. Soash Land Company began promoting the land, and the little town began to grow.  In November 1907 the post office opened.

In 1924, the original school was torn down and a new school was built.  It included a gymnasium, teacher’s quarters and a 200-seat auditorium.  By the early 1930s, the town had become a farming center for that part of the county, and there was a farm implement dealer/ store, gas station, grain elevator, lumberyard, post office, two-story school, and a large train station.

Shortly after the Second World War, Perico had 30 people, three operating businesses and the school was still in use.  As late as 1960 there were 40 people here, but by 1990 the town was dead.

The post office closed prior to 1970, the school closed and the town rolled up its sidewalks and began to take a dirt nap.  The GNIS aerial photo shows several buildings and a line of four grain elevators along the railroad.
