After
the Civil War ended, cattle became big business in The
land remained closed to non-natives, until 1885, when Congress allowed the
president to begin negotiations with some of the native nations to allow
white settlement. On April 22, 1889, the first land run began. Thousands of
folks had lined up waiting for the cannon blast, and their chance to get some
