House Resolution No. 4195

Whereas, it is with special pleasure that the members of the Missouri House of Representatives pause to recognize the City of Weaubleau, Missouri, which is celebrating its One Hundred Twenty-fifth Anniversary in 2005; and

Whereas, early history of the Haran and Weaubleau area shows that the Sac Indians lived in the southwest part of Hickory County and that the Osage Indians lived in the northern part of the County; and

Whereas, the location of where the original town of Haran was is owned by Lester and Mae Shockley on the northwest edge of Weaubleau; and

Whereas, the only trace of the town of Haran is an area containing a walnut tree and a cedar tree which was known as Weaubleau Prairie, while the town was called Weaubleau City until its name was changed to Haran in 1880; and

Whereas, Weaubleau Township was formed at the May term of the County Court in 1881, the township being six sections long, six miles, and seven sections wide, seven miles; and

Whereas, Weaubleau Township was formed from the west side of Tyler Township and in 1881, the name of Haran was changed to Weaubleau; and

Whereas, Weaubleau is an Indian name with a French spelling and is the only town in the United States with this name; and

Whereas, incorporated in 1899, the City of Weaubleau boasts a population of around five hundred and remains the home of some of Hickory County's finest citizens:

Now, therefore, be it resolved that we, the members of the Missouri House of Representatives, Ninety-third General Assembly, unanimously join in extending our most hearty and robust congratulations to the City of Weaubleau upon this very special anniversary event; and

Be it further resolved that the Chief Clerk of the Missouri House of Representatives be instructed to prepare a properly inscribed copy of this resolution for the City of Weaubleau, Missouri.
