NACIMIENTO DEL ORO MINE

Part of the Trujillo Mines Group, which was located at the headwaters of Burns Creek, about 5.5 AIR miles northeast of Hornitos. Actual location not determined.

 

NEAL’S RANCH

Some placer mining took place at this ranch along the Chowchilla River in the 1860s when a small placer camp developed at the diggings.  Exact location not determined.

 

NELLIE KAHOE MINE

Located in the Mount Bullion Mining District, about a mile northwest of Mount Ophir.  Exact location not determined.

 

NEW DIGGINGS RANCH

NEW MEXICAN CAMP

This late 1851 era New Mexican placer mining camp was located west of Bear Valley.  Exact location not determined.

 

NEW YEAR’S DIGGINGS
         AKA – New Diggings Ranch

This mining camp operated in the 1850s as a placer camp, and the diggings were reworked in the 1920s by dredges.  It was located on Brown’s Creek about seven miles north of Merced Falls (Merced Co.). It was located at or near the Robert PROUTY Ranch.  Exact location not determined.

 

NOBLE’S DREDGE

NORTH FORK

This 1850s hard rock mining camp was located at the confluence of the main branch of the Merced River and the North Fork of the Merced River.  In 1859 a 12-stamp mill was located here.

 

NORWEGIAN FLAT

NORWEGIAN GULCH

The DeLorme atlas shows a gulch by this name leading west out of Mount Ophir.

 

NORWEGIAN TENT
         AKA – Norwegian Flat, Norwegian Gulch

This early 1850s mining camp was located near Mount Ophir.  Actual location not determined.

 

NUMBER 1 MINE

Early 1900s mine located on the Quartzburg Gold Vein, in the Hornitos Mining District.  Actual location not determined.

 

NUMBER 4 MINE

Early 1900s mine located on the Quartzburg Gold Vein, in the Hornitos Mining District.  Actual location not determined.

 

NUMBER 5 MINE

Early 1900s mine located on the Quartzburg Gold Vein, in the Hornitos Mining District.  Actual location not determined.

 

NUMBER 7 MINE

Early 1900s mine located on the Quartzburg Gold Vein, in the Hornitos Mining District.  Actual location not determined.

 

NUMBER 8 MINE

Early 1900s mine located on the Quartzburg Gold Vein, in the Hornitos Mining District.  Actual location not determined.

 

NUMBER 9 MINE

Early 1900s mine located on the Quartzburg Gold Vein, in the Hornitos Mining District.  Located about 2.5 miles northeast of Hornitos.  In 1882, the mine employed about 30 men, and had a 30-stamp mill on site to process the gold ore.  It closed by 1885.

 

NUTMEG MINE

            This hard rock gold mine was located directly on the East Belt vein system.  It was located on Whitlock Creek in the Whitlock Mining District, about four miles north of Mariposa, just north of the Permit Mine, and about a mile west of the Diltz-Oro Grande Mine.  It produced about $180,000+ in gold over its lifetime.
