INCLINE (#1)

This old mining/logging center was active between 1924 and 1942, and was located on the Merced River, just west of the community of Merced River, 3.6 miles west of Incline (#2).

 

INCLINE (#2)

This old mining/logging center was located on the Merced River, just west of El Portal, 3.6 miles east of Incline (#1).

 

INDIAN FLAT  (DEAD NAME)

This is the former name for the present community of Merced River, along the Merced River west of El Portal.  The community of Merced River is NO GHOST.

 

INDIAN GULCH (#1)

         AKA – Santa Cruz

This 1850-1870s era mining camp was located on Indian Gulch Road about four miles southeast of Hornitos and five miles west of Cathey’s Valley.   When the post office was established, the name Santa Cruz was already taken so it was called Indian Gulch.  At its peak Indian Gulch had about 700 folks, as well as two blacksmiths, a butcher catholic church, four general stores, hotel, liquor store, lumber yard, saddle shop and a school.

 

INDIAN GULCH (#2)

This gold mining gulch was located in the Gentry Gulch area, about seven miles southeast of Coulterville, off the Merced River.  The Quail Mine was located here.  It was in the Kinsley Mining District.

           

INDIAN PEAK SCHOOL

            A one-room school was located here.  Location not determined.

IRON DUKE MINE

A gold mine located in Hunter Valley.  The exact location not determined.
