Bullitt County History

Bullitt County, Kentucky was the site of thriving salt works and iron works in the late 1700s and early to mid 1800s. This set of pages describes the county's history, with particular emphasis on the period from 1775-1850.

Much of this material was originally gleaned from research done by Robert McDowell. Mr. McDowell's original research and his articles on this area may be found within the pages of the Filson Club journal.

This site is dedicated to Tom Pack, a local historian who guided my searches for information about Bullitt County.

Finally, I'm grateful to Betty Hartley, my wife and friend, for her considerable work on many of the drawings and maps found throughout this site. This site would not exist if it were not for her patience when I spend too much time at the keyboard.
