Tuskaloosa Gazette - Project
The Tuscaloosa Gazette Index
The Larger Research Context
Copyright © 2003 Morris Simon. All Rights Reserved.
This Index is a by-product of a much larger historical and
genealogical research project. It eventually will include indices for all available local newspapers and other resources relevant to the first one hundred years of Tuscaloosa history, all of which I hope to make available on Internet web pages.
As a college teacher, I have special professional interests in
local historical research methods and web-based access to primary
research materials. I also have personal genealogical interests
in the local area and know the availability and range of
Tuscaloosa records fairly well.
The immediate purpose of the Index is to enable me to track
persons, places and businesses as they changed in the last quarter
of the 19th century. In the absence of a federal census for 1890,
I am collecting as many names and details as I can to bridge the
twenty-year gap between the 1880 and 1900 censuses.
Please visit the site often because it is growing rapidly. As it
expands, the index will almost certainly contain references to
some of your Tuscaloosa kindred.
I hope that you enjoy using the Index and that it provides useful
shortcuts for your personal research. If I can clarify any
details about the contents of the Index, or try to answer
questions about my research project, please email me at
