Richard served about two years in Tasmania, then came to Sydney where he was a Garrison Guard and was
for some time stationed at Emu Plains where the pay records note him as a Cook. Following his discharge, he reverted to his pre-service trade as a labourer in Carcoar NSW (nr Bathurst) and later settled at Kings Plains near Bathurst Following his death, Emma married Job Taylor of Thalaba and the family moved to Stroud NSW.
